6 Reasons Not to Stop Drinking Coffee

AKA: What Joe can do for you.

CoffeeBeans Every time that someone mentions to me that I should watch how much coffee I drink, I want to point them to one of the many studies that I have read which conclude that Coffee is good for you.

I never seem to be able to find those studies though.

Until today that is. Phil over at Thought Sparks posted that he was going to give up Caffeine for 35 Days, don’t do it Phil.

Why? Here are some reasons, from the Men’s Health Articles “Know your Joe” and “Memory Upgrade“:

Note: The study suggests keeping your coffee intake to “four 8-ounce cups a day”. I drink 2 cups in the morning, and 3 cups in the morning, and 1 cup in the afternoon, just to get me woken up before I head home.

      Mike, You are probably on to something with coffee. There are certainly many other worse habits one can have than drinking coffee. I doubt this will be a long-term thing for me, but to do a temporary cleanse, I think it’s a good thing. Ya know, my problem is that I don’t drink a couple cups, but start with a couple mugs and go from there.
      Another healthy vice is dark chocolate. My favorite of course being espresso beans covered in dark chocolate. Ah, there is a wonderfully splendid buzz. Okay, now the temptation is building, better head-off to bed. :)

      You have that right, there are some habits that are worse. With coffee, I have been able to cut my intake way back, I used to drink it all day long, pot after pot. Everything in moderation doesn’t usually work for me, usually I go into glutton more.

      So I’m not usually a fan of dark chocolate, except when they are covering espresso beans. I would have never thought that those two things combined would make something so delicious.

      I have already forwarded this link to ALL of my coworkers who harp on me every morning for drinking coffee. I finally have some arguments to come back at them with!

      Why does everyone have to load their “elixir of life” or “brew of death” expectations on coffee? Whatever happened to moderation? Or drinking things for enjoyment, without obsessing if every molecule you ingest is going to kill you or extend your life by 20 years?

      We’re going to kill ourselves obsessing over it if nothing else.

      You’re right, a little bit isn’t going to kill you. Unfortunately I run in a Gluttony vs. Starvation mode. If something is good, then 10 times that thing must be 10 times better, right? I know, it’s something I need to work on. :-)
