Those crazy kids and their blogs…
September 22, 2007
Well, Art has been going a little crazy with his blog, but it looks like he’s finally done. While he was gone on vacation, his router at home decided it was going on vacation too. Which made all of his web sites inaccessible.
What’s worse is that the web sites didn’t know this, and they just thought no one was visiting. Their anxiety over this caused many long term effects. Don’t worry, Art arranged therapy for them, went out and put a new theme on them, and everyone is feeling much better now. I think the final product is very nice indeed.
Unfortunately, I don’t see my beloved tag cloud.
Speaking of tag clouds, I noticed it when first launched, but Phil placed the new Amazon “Product Cloud” over on Tech Fires. Amazon introduced a number of new widgets recently, and the product cloud is one of them. Of course, you have to be an affiliate, Amazon uses the term associate, to use them.
If you are an affiliate, you should check them out though, some of them look pretty neat. I joined Amazon just so I could recommend books when I write about them, but these new widgets are so snazzy that I may just have to put one up.
Of course, adding widgets isn’t the only thing that Phil has been doing, Scott from My Thermos has joined him in writing his “Rapid Fire Reviews of Hot Technology. Between the two of them, they did 23 posts just in the past 5 weekdays. That’s pretty impressive, especially considering they both have their own blogs, and hold down day jobs.
Hooray! It looks like Pearl is back to her regular posting habits over at Interesting Observations. I didn’t realize it, but it was the Smiley faces anniversary Monday. At least the emoticon smiley face.
Personally, I have been pretty busy this week, so I haven’t had that much time to read my RSS feeds, and less time to leave comments. To make matters worse, Scott sent me an invite to Jango, which is pretty cool. He also sent me an invite to Rescue Time, which has been pretty stable. Once I have more time to play with them, I’ll write something up.

oh nooo
thats my wishful thinking
hope to catch up soon though… thank you so much for the link and mention! may be you can guest post on my blog?
that’d be really nice!
But I do believe that posting 23 posts in a week is a bit too much, don’t you think? I am not experimenting less posts or anything and it so happens that I am awfully busy with some things, but I’ve noticed I picked up quite a few RSS readers during this slow time……. and the adsense ads started to become a bit more relevant…

No problem Pearl, I have given guest posting some thought, and you were on the list of blogs I was going to ask. That is great that you picked up new subscribers, I really appreciate all of the regular readers I have.
I could never do 23 posts in a week! But Phil just launched that blog, and it was 2 authors. You should check it out, they have been reviewing some really great sites.
Thanks for the comment!

Ok, ok. You talked me in to it. I put the tag cloud back on incoherentmumbling.com.
Port 16 is looking pretty good. At first I didn’t like the adjustments you made to the sidebar, but the more I visit your site, the less I even notice it. I guess it just took a while to grow on me.

Oh, and I see you brought over the Helium chick too. Good job!
September 22nd, 2007 at 7:47 pm
HA! I had a good laugh over that.
Since I increased the size of the sidebar, I put a bigger Ad in it. The Helium ads started appearing after that.
I’m glad you like the layout, and thanks for putting up the tag cloud.

Thanks for the writeup Mike - I’m really enjoying the posts on Techfires.com - the rapid fire format is really great.
I’m trying to think if there are any other sites I may have invites to but you’re already on Pownce and I don’t have any Streamy invites left. Other than that, I think that is it.

No problem, you guys have been writing about some really great stuff, and I appreciate the invites.
I think I’ve joined something like 6 sites this week

hey mike, me again! sorry this is the only post that i found the word “router” using the search site, so i guess this is where i’ll comment. i actually consider this question pretty easy for you, though i’m struggling on how to solve it. After a large amount of data transferred or specifically downloading, the internet icon on my screen just goes from a little globe to triangular, saying limited connectivity and thus unable to connect to the internet. The only way to solve it was to restart the computer. You know why this is taking place on my vista OS computer, but not on my XP OS one?

That’s a new one on me Donald. Have you tried getting updated drivers for the network card? Is it wireless or wired?
June 13th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
wireless, shd be BGN 5100 wifi, hmm surprised u didn’t encounter it before. but usually sometimes during a connection failure or disconnection, there would be a small yellow triangle beside the “monitors” of the connection saying that it’s limited connectivity, or check network adapters. not sure why, happened recently when i changed the ISP
June 13th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
I’ve ran into the “limited or no connectivity” before, but haven’t had a issue where the connection would drop out with that error after transfering data.
When it says limited or no connection, can you ping you’re default gateway?
June 13th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
I’ve actually run in to this before.
During very large file transfers the network card will stop responding. I can’t ping anything, not even the default gateway. Refreshing the IP doesn’t work, it never gets a new one. If I try to disable and enable the card, it will disable just fine, but I can’t get it to enable again.
The only thing that gets it working again is restarting my computer.
I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but I suspect the card is failing and I’ll soon need to install a new one.

So Art you mean that i have to reinstall a new network card for the notebook? would be be a great hassle? and plus what you said, was exactly the problem i encountered. the router is STILL connected to my computer, just aint giving any ip address or access towards it
June 15th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Oh, well, I didn’t realize you were using a notebook. That kind of limits your options.
Does it have a wireless connection? If so, does it have the same issue (Or are we already talking about the wireless adapter?)
If you can get hold of a PCMCIA or USB wireless or wired network adapter, does that work?
I guess what I’m getting at here is see if you can verify that another network adapter works without the same issues appearing.

The wireless card may be a mini card that you can just pop out like a memory stick. Usually accessible from the bottom of the laptop. If it is, then you replacing it is a piece of cake.
If the system is still in warranty, you can bother HP until they replace it
June 16th, 2009 at 1:13 am
so that means the issue has to deal with the wireless card then? if so yea i might bug HP for a new one by sending my computer in =) Thanks for the help from the two of you!
June 16th, 2009 at 8:16 am
Well, you could always go use another access point and see if you have the same issue. I would absolutely try that before I call HP.
June 16th, 2009 at 11:03 am
alright, i’ll borrow a friend’s place and try downloading some apps or other stuff just to ensure it, thanks for the advice Mike =)
June 16th, 2009 at 11:27 am
No problem, hope it helps. Good Luck!

hey Mike & Art, i guess my network card is kind of failing, with patches for TCP/IP event ID 4226 it’s still very slow, but i was wondering if you guys knew how to DIY with changing the HP DV5 network card? or any tips or suggests as to how to replace it?
July 2nd, 2009 at 6:08 pm
If the card is failing, there isn’t a whole lot you can do but replace it. I take it the DV5 is your wireless card. Is it easily accessible from the bottom of the laptop? If so, it isn’t too hard to swap. Will HP replace it?
July 3rd, 2009 at 1:11 am
probably not, since i have to send it in and they have to go through checking and verifications and other procedures. I guess the card is placed underneath the HDD, so it shouldn’t be too hard to remove and replace it, but just wondering where i can get a new card
