Happy New Years!
December 31, 2007
I started this blog back in July, and I really appreciate all of the people who have kept coming back to read it. I really feel lucky to have such a great group of readers.
Of course, the more prolific commenters are my fellow bloggers, I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts, as well as the conversations that we have. I know that I haven’t been really good about reading and commenting on your blogs the last couple of months, but I haven’t forgotten about you. So, I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
So Happy New Year to Art, Pearl, Scott, Phil, Kellypea, Steven, Kevin, Ross, and anyone else that I forgot to mention. I hope you all have some good luck, good times, health and happiness in the upcoming year!
As for myself, every year, right after Christmas, even if I haven’t been thinking about it, I always start to feel the finality of the year. Of course, I also feel the hope that a New Year brings. I know that I’m not alone in this, since everyone starts making New Years resolutions. I generally avoid them, but this year is a little different. There are two reasons for this.
The first reason is that I recently had a little time to kill, and I had my planner with me. I realized that many of the goals I had set for myself, even written down, had never become more than words on paper. Sure writing your goals down is a great first step, but you should follow it through with more steps.
The second reason is that I realize the need to stop procrastinating. Every time I’ve slacked off on something, I always tell myself that I’ll pick it back up, "after the weekend", or some other handy future date. Of course, when that date comes, there’s always another one right over the horizon, and it sure is easier to put it off again than it is to adopt that behavior.
When I look back on 2007, I have to say that I didn’t really accomplish all that much. I haven’t read any of the books that I have wanted to read, I haven’t gotten back into shape, I haven’t stopped smoking. Trust me, I can go on and on.
I pledge to make this year better. To stop putting off the things I want to do. I also resolve to place the things that are important to me as the highest priorities.
I let too many days get consumed by fires, and too many evenings destroyed by the events of the day. Too many worthwhile goals are put off because I’m "too tired" or because "I don’t feel like it". Not anymore.
Here’s to 2008.
Bring it on!

I feel the same way sometimes Mike but as David reminded me on my blog in commenting on my goals post, we do have to stop and celebrate the successes, even if it was just the smallest of things we accomplished! Like starting this blog and making it so popular, hundreds of readers who have visited here and gained so much. I have enjoyed getting to know you this year and reading your blog. I haven’t been keeping up with commenting as well but plan to do better.
I’ve been thinking of inviting you to host one of the social media projects that vivien of inspirationbit posted about on her blog today. The project will run in Feb., and there are still some social media networks that need to be covered!
Wishing you and your family a very Happy New Year.

Wow Pearl, my little “Happy New Year” comment on your blog seems a little short now
I think that starting this blog really is about the biggest thing I’ve done all year, and it is really nice to have so many good friends from other blogs, as well as all the visitors that have found something useful here. I also have enjoyed getting to know you this year, and have gotten some really great tips and ideas from your blog!
I’m not a big social network user, and I took a look at that post on inspirationbit, but they’ve already claimed any of the sites that I know anything about, so thanks for the invite, but I think I’ll have to pass. Thanks for thinking about me though
I hope you and yours have a great New Year!

Happy New Year to you and yours, Mike! And ditto on the blogging buddy-ness. I was able to spend some actual time at my computer today for the first time since before Christmas (although it was mostly on my food blog which has been sorely neglected) and came across my notes on the steak with the habaneros I got from you. Yanno — I think I have some of that marinade left in my freezer. And do you know it never really froze? Alcohol, right? Bwahahahahaha! Man, that steak was good. Anyway, cheers to you, and good luck with your planner and getting things to more than paper level (if that’s what you truly want). I know because I’ve made a few of those “promises” to myself as well. Guess I better think about them, huh? See you more in the coming year! (My son has a new PC…)

lol I know you were in a hurry
you don’t really need to know anything about those networks ….. I think its gonna work like a carnival where people submit links to the articles they post on their own sites… and if you write something on Mixx, Squidoo or Netscape, you can send me the link to be included - those are the ones I’ll be hosting on my site (and a new blog I will introduce :))

Happy new year to you and yours, Mike.
I don’t know what you mean when you say “When I look back on 2007, I have to say that I didn’t really accomplish all that much.”
You have a healthy family and a happy home. You accomplished a lot, my friend. You really did.
Happy new year.

@Kellypea
Thanks Kellypea! I’m so glad that you liked that steak. I know a friend here at work just made it, and they liked it too. I’m glad you guys had a good trip!
I think everyone makes promises to themselves, I just am getting a little tired of breaking them
We’ll see…
Oh, and I did read about your son’s PC. I’m not afraid to admit that I was a little jealous.
@Pearl
I’ll keep that in mind, about the social sites. Thanks again for thinking about me.
And a new blog?!?! Well, I look forward to reading it!
@Art
Thanks for that Art!
I’m really thankful for what I have, and I’m glad that I was able to keep everything cruising along. Everyone has food to eat, a roof over their head, and clothes on their backs. Of course, I’m not complaining at all about that. I just think that I could have done more last year than just maintain the status quo.
You’ve had a big year though
@All
Thanks for the comments! I hope this year is working out so far!
