Although I’m not some extreme environmentalist, I do like to do what I can, where I can. Not to mention that I don’t like waste. Although we didn’t do it for earth day, we recently created a worm bin.
What’s a worm bin you ask? It’s pretty simple really, you take a container of some sort, fill it with wet newspaper (you can see the dry stuff in the picture to the left), and then you put worms in it.
The worms will eat the paper, and cardboard too, but the best part, is they will eat your food waste too.
When I say food waste, I mean vegetable and fruit scraps, coffee grounds, coffee filters, tea bags, etc. You don’t want to put cooked food, meats or animal waste in there though.
The fancy name for this is either worm composting, or vermicomposting. If you’re interested, just do a search for “Worm Bin” at your favorite search engine. Here are some plans to make a set just like mine.
The bins I made were made out of 3 10 gallon Rubber Maid containers, and I think in total the
materials cost a whopping 15 dollars. Now to be honest, I did hire some shady contractors to do the work, and they wanted to be paid in cookies. So I didn’t include cookie costs in the project budget.
We purchased our red worms from “Uncle Jims Worm farm” and those were the most expensive part of the project, they were $20 for 1000 of them (free shipping).
So far, everything is working out great. I’m waiting for the worms to catch up to the food supply though.
Once the worms are done chewing up all that food, the “castings” (what we call poop) can be harvested, and used to provide some terrific nutrition for you lawn, vegetable garden, or even your house plants.
The way I see it, you already bought all of that food, coffee and tea, why not get a little more use out of it, and save some landfill space while you’re at it.

Work has been continuing over at Two Guys Tech. Today we released the third podcast, "Someone’s in the kitchen with Art".
We’ve had some technical difficulties with Show 002 - The Chris Streisand effect, but we’re getting things squared away.
Art is still hard at work on the website, although when I posted a video tutorial this morning, the embed code made drupal have a bit of a seizure and re-arranged the page.
The video goes over how to change folder view options in Windows XP,so it’s pretty basic, but we’re trying to help out all levels of users. We’re going to get some more technical stuff up there pretty soon.
Besides letting you guys (and gals) know what I’ve been up to, I also wanted to point out some of the people that we’ve linked to, since our site isn’t being crawled by anything yet, the linkback notices aren’t going out.
Teckh had a interesting way to get around Vista’s UAC, which inspired me to mention my favorite way to work around UAC, which I covered in the podcast, and I also have the steps in the show notes.
We also talked about Virtual memory, and the difference between Memory (RAM) and Storage (Hard Drive). This was inspired by a question from Kellypea. That part is somewhere around 22 minutes into the podcast.
One thing we are in need of, is feedback. Our goal is to try to help people make use of technology, so questions are welcome, but any feedback would be appreciated. You can send email to feedback at twoguystech.com.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you listen in and visit Two Guys Tech!

Now, it may just be me, but is this cheaper than it used to be? Amazon lists Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1 for $289
The Windows Vista Ultimate without SP1 lists for $319, formerly $399.95.
I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t follow pricing that terribly closely, but this does seem to be cheaper than it was in the past. Anyone?

I had mentioned that Art and I were working on a project, and today’s the day.
We launched Two Guys Tech today! The site is still a work in progress, Art has some really big plans for it. There isn’t any content there yet, but the framework for great things is in place.
Also, in addition to the site, we are launching a podcast, and the first episode is available on Podshow. You can listen to the show at that link, and if you feel inclined to do so, there are also some handy dandy subscription buttons. This way you’ll never miss an episode.
We would really like to make the site and the show something to help computer users of all levels, so feel free to give us any feedback you have, or ideas for what you would like to see.
I really appreciate everyone who has been a reader of this blog, and I hope you’ll come over to Two Guys Tech and follow it as well.
And Kellypea, I haven’t forgotten your question about Memory, I have a whole series of posts planned to answer it.
