I’m sure that all of you are familiar with George Orwell, and most of you have probably read his writing. I know that I read “Animal Farm” and “1984” in school, then again later.
Although the classics stick with me, I hadn’t really explored any of his other writings, but looking through the bibliography in the link above, I already see many things that I would like to read.
Britain’s “The Orwell Prize”, an award for political writing, is publishing George Orwell’s diaries, in blog format. The Website is The Orwell Diaries.
Besides the fact that it’s a look into the life of a great writer, one interesting aspect is that the diaries start on August 9th, 1938, and the blog was started on August 9th, 2008, exactly 70 years after the entries were written.
If you’re interested in reading more about the diaries, read the blog’s about page. I know I’m interested in reading the blog, and seeing what Orwell’s thoughts were. I hope you’ll join me.

Just to take a little walk down memory lane. A Year Ago I had just registered the domain, and had to immediately go out of state on vacation. I did return on August 1st.
Darn it, I wish I could have gone on vacation this year too! Oh well. I do have a couple of days off coming at the end of this week, and then I’m turning next weekend into a 5 day weekend. I can’t wait.
Well, just getting back into the swing of things, I didn’t have too much going on. I showed you how to track a Mobile Phone’s location for free, and was shocked at what a One Legged Man was charged with doing (I think this may be one of Art’s favorite all time posts).
The last post that was noteworthy was about Bust a Name, a domain name generator that was pretty darn cool.
Now, I know that last week I didn’t post much of anything, except for my links and Wallpaper post. This week I hope to do a little better. Thanks for everyone who’ has stuck around and put up with me.

Sorry, I’m running a little late on my links post today. I have to say thanks to Phil for inspiring me on what category to use for these links.
Checklist for Setting up WordPress - Phil has been building Wordpress sites like crazy for quite awhile now, and lucky for us, he’s distilled his knowledge into a checklist. Great list Phil, Thanks!
A Rule of Thumb for Categories - Here’s another Gem from Phil. On our Drupal site, I’ve had to create categories by hand, which makes for far fewer categories then what you see in most WordPress blogs. Phil shares his rule of thumb on categories, and why it’s his rule.
WordPress: The complete post install checklist - Like they say about checklists, you can’t have just one. Well, maybe that’s chips or something, but you get my point. Might as well have a couple of check lists, it always helps to have another’s perspective.
9 Easy Ways to Secure your WordPress Blog - This time, a list about security. This list tells you how to lock it down a little more.
3 WordPress Security Tips I learnt from Matt Cutts - Well, I didn’t learn them from him, but the author of this article did, and I learned them from him. Knowledge transfer in action!

CNET has always been one of the better known names, at least when it comes to Tech reviews and news. So when I ran across this headline on TechCrunch, it really caught my attention.
CBS is set to acquire NET for $1.8 Billion Dollars, and TechCrunch says that the move is aimed at expanding CBS’ reach.
Not too long ago, I posted about how much I liked CNET.TV, and the more content I see, the more I like what they’re doing. Here’s hoping that CBS doesn’t mess it all up.
Heck, maybe they can get more money and a higher production value, since CBS has to have more resources than CNET did.
I’ll be curious to see what happens.

Way back in July, the Gmail team invited the world to submit clips for the Gmail Video. They provided a printable version of the GMail envelope, and the simple instructions that the clip must feature the envelope entering from the left of the screen, and exiting to right of the screen.
Well, on Tuesday, the Gmail team announced the finished product. They received more than 1,100 clips from 65 countries, and even included a handy dandy map of where the submissions came from.
The video actually turned out much better than I thought is was going to. You can see all of the submissions here on YouTube, and the final video is below.
