The TWIT Army

Date June 5, 2008

image One of my favorite podcasts has been This Week in Tech. I’ve posted about it a couple of times, even talked about it on our most recent podcast. There is some really great stuff to listen to there.

Recently, the guy behind the TWIT podcast network, Leo Laporte, launched Twit Live, which is a series of cameras that record him while he is recording his podcasts. The guests on his podcasts can use their video cameras, and in studio guests can be on camera too.

The thing that amazes me is that Leo Laporte has this following of fans, and for good reason, that just keep adding up. From his stint on TechTV, to his radio show. The more venues he is in, and the more exposure he gets, the more fans he "collects". The number of them seems to keep growing.

Affectionately known as the TWIT army, the fans come out to listen, they come out to download podcasts, and now, they can watch him too.

Windows Weekly is probably one of the least watched shows on the TWIT network, but here, while it is being recorded, at noon mountain time on Thursday, Leo has 1800 users watching the feed.

That just boggles my mind. I’m at work, and I just popped in to see what was going on. Yet 1800 people were able to find the time during the day to watch Leo record a podcast.

On a recent episode of TWIT, they were discussing the viewership of TechTV, a professionally produced cable television channel. They realized that the TWIT network blows TechTV out of the water when it comes to the number of people that listen to the show. Amazing.

Keep up the great work Leo!

They Stole the Moon

image Not being the super visual guy, I had to actually give myself a re-occuring task to change my wallpaper. I just never think about it, and changing my desktop wallpaper regularly keeps things feeling fresh.

Today’s wallpaper is from Vlad Studio, again. It’s called "They Stole the Moon (2008)". It seems like the stuff from Vlad Studio has been on my desktop for weeks, even though this is the first time I’ve posted about it.

Great Stuff!

The Podcasts keep coming, but no Google Juice yet

Date April 16, 2008

Work has been continuing over at Two Guys Tech. Today we released the third podcast, "Someone’s in the kitchen with Art".

We’ve had some technical difficulties with Show 002 - The Chris Streisand effect, but we’re getting things squared away.

Art is still hard at work on the website, although when I posted a video tutorial this morning, the embed code made drupal have a bit of a seizure and re-arranged the page.

The video goes over how to change folder view options in Windows XP,so it’s pretty basic, but we’re trying to help out all levels of users. We’re going to get some more technical stuff up there pretty soon.

Besides letting you guys (and gals) know what I’ve been up to, I also wanted to point out some of the people that we’ve linked to, since our site isn’t being crawled by anything yet, the linkback notices aren’t going out.

Teckh had a interesting way to get around Vista’s UAC, which inspired me to mention my favorite way to work around UAC, which I covered in the podcast, and I also have the steps in the show notes.

We also talked about Virtual memory, and the difference between Memory (RAM) and Storage (Hard Drive). This was inspired by a question from Kellypea. That part is somewhere around 22 minutes into the podcast.

One thing we are in need of, is feedback. Our goal is to try to help people make use of technology, so questions are welcome, but any feedback would be appreciated. You can send email to feedback at twoguystech.com.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you listen in and visit Two Guys Tech!

Letting the Cat out of the Bag

ability_logo I had mentioned that Art and I were working on a project, and today’s the day.

We launched Two Guys Tech today! The site is still a work in progress, Art has some really big plans for it. There isn’t any content there yet, but the framework for great things is in place.

Also, in addition to the site, we are launching a podcast, and the first episode is available on Podshow. You can listen to the show at that link, and if you feel inclined to do so, there are also some handy dandy subscription buttons. This way you’ll never miss an episode.

We would really like to make the site and the show something to help computer users of all levels, so feel free to give us any feedback you have, or ideas for what you would like to see.

I really appreciate everyone who has been a reader of this blog, and I hope you’ll come over to Two Guys Tech and follow it as well.

And Kellypea, I haven’t forgotten your question about Memory, I have a whole series of posts planned to answer it.

Inch by Inch and Pixel by Pixel

Mike

Have you ever had one of those projects, where you just have the hardest time getting anything done? That’s how it seems to be with my current project.

I mentioned in the last post, that Art and I are getting ready to launch a new web site and podcast. Art has taken over the web master duties, I’m taking care of Podcast production, and we are both going to be creating content for the web site.

Now, Art is making leaps and bounds on the site, and it’s really coming along nicely. Me on the other hand, I’m wallowing in non-productivity.

I’ve can only put in 2 or 3 hours every night, and I even have to skip a night here and there. That should be plenty of time, right?

Remember Mike, “slow and steady wins the race”.

I’m going to keep plugging away, and we hope to have something up by Wednesday or Friday. When we do launch, I can give you all a URL or two to look at.

(Art, we still good on Wednesday? Maybe Friday?)

I’m planning on doing a bunch of video tutorials, and last night I was working on a opening screen for the video, and it came out really nice. Then I realized that the right side of my title is getting cut off by the you tube logo. I may try blip.tv or some other service and see if it works there.

I’ve got three videos recorded, but I still have to edit and narrate them, I’ve got my VMWare Server set up, and my first virtual machine running.

I’m really can’t wait to tell everyone about what we’ve been working on, but I want to wait until we’re ready. After re-reading the above, I can see that I am making more progress than I thought. It’s just that I want to have launched it yesterday, and already have started working full time on the project. Patience Mike, Patience.

Just a little bit of a giveaway, the picture here is a cartoon of me, and it’s part of our logo. The daughter of a friend of ours was nice enough to create cartoon characters of Art and I. We scanned them in, and Art has been doing some incredible work to make a logo.

OK, that’s enough for now. Stay tuned.
